Scarborough Theatre Guild was closely involved with the creation of the Library Theatre in Scarborough. Stephen Joseph made early contact with the group and drew volunteers for box office, front of house and back-stage roles from the group.
A leading figure in Scarborough Theatre Guild was Ken Boden, an insurance agent and keen amateur theatrical. After Stephen and Alan Ayckbourn, he is probably the third most important person in the Stephen Joseph Theatre's history as it was he who kept the theatre running in the years after Stephen's death and before Alan Ayckbourn became Artistic Director and - most importantly - he was largely responsible for re-opening the Library Theatre as a professional venue two years after Stephen Joseph closed it in 1965.
This letter invites members of the Guild to the opening night of the Library Theatre and the play, Circle Of Love by Eleanor D. Glaser, as well as explaining who Stephen Joseph was and what theatre-in-the-round was.
